Charleston's coffee scene has matured significantly in the past five years. The city now supports a genuine specialty coffee culture — roasters, single-origin programs, skilled baristas — that rivals cities with much longer café traditions. At The Colosseum, our café program is built on the same principles that define the best specialty coffee experiences anywhere.

What Makes Coffee Specialty

The Specialty Coffee Association defines specialty coffee as beans scoring 80 or above on a 100-point quality scale. In practice, this means single-origin or carefully blended beans with traceable provenance, processed and roasted to highlight their inherent flavor characteristics rather than to mask defects. The difference in cup quality is not subtle — it's the difference between a beverage that tastes like coffee and one that tastes like the specific place and conditions where it was grown.

Our Coffee Program

The Colosseum sources from two Charleston-area roasters and one direct-trade partner in Colombia. Our espresso program is built around a house blend designed for milk-based drinks and a rotating single-origin for filter and black espresso. We also offer a functional beverage menu including adaptogen lattes (lion's mane, ashwagandha, reishi), matcha preparations, and a house-made cold brew with added MCT oil for sustained energy.
